April 14th Meeting Wrap-Up

What a fantastic meetup we had last Thursday! I think I can speak for everyone when I say that the food was great, the beer was cold and the talks were fantastic.

I’d like to thank John Viner and PlayUp once again for hosting the night and putting on the pizza and beer.

…and of course, I’d like to thank our speakers for the night:

  • Oliver Jones – Test Flight
  • Jesse Collis & Stewart Gleadow – Xcode 4 Shortcuts
  • Chris Miles – Jeans West iPad App
  • Alan Harper – Automated Awesome

We’ll have the videos up shortly, so if you weren’t able to be there on the night, do yourself a favour and take some time out to watch them. The talks really were that good.

Cheers

Sean

April 14th Meetup

The next Cocoaheads Melbourne meetup will be held at the offices of PlayUp in Richmond:

When: 14th April, 6:30pm
Where: Building 1, Level 2, 658 Church Street, Richmond 3121

They’ve offered pizza, beer and a good time, so you know you’ll want to be there!

This month we have Oliver Jones talking about TestFlight, a pretty cool over the air ad-hoc distribution service.

In addition to Oliver’s talk, we’ll also have a few ‘lightning’ talks from:

- Alan Harper, talking about the continuous integration and delivery environment he’s set up at PlayUp.
- Chris Miles, talking about the challenges behind the iPad app he’s just finished for Jeans West.

I think we could do with one or two more lightning talks, so if you’ve got something to talk about, stick your hand up. Otherwise you’ll have to listen to me blabbering about scroll performance testing or anything else I can think of on the night :-)

Cheers

Sean.

March 10th Meeting Wrap-Up

Once again we had a great turnout at the March 10th Cocoaheads meetup. Someone mentioned we had 55 people at one point, which is one of the biggest yet!

A huge ‘thank you!’ to John Kordyback and Thoughtworks for hosting the event. We well and truly cleared out their office fridge by the time things wrapped up. I’m tipping their Friday night drinks might have been a little dry.

Thanks also to Grant and Kevin for speaking on the night. I’ve included video of their talks below.

March 10th Meetup

ThoughtWorks has kindly offered their offices for the Melbourne Cocoaheads meeting on the 10th March. Once again there’s pizza, beer and a whole-lot-a great discussion on Mac and iOS development on offer.

Our Speakers:

  1. Kevin O’Neil from REA will be giving a talk on practical uses of blocks for data processing. We’ve been using Kevin’s various collection categories for a while now, and I’ve gotta say, they really are worth knowing about.
  2. Grant Adam from Jelly Biscuits (http://www.jellybiscuits.com) will be giving a talk on their interactive books. He’ll shed some light on developing cross platform applications using Unity and how they’ve fared on both the iTunes App Store and the Apple App Store.

When: 10th March, 6:30pm
Where: ThoughtWorks, Level 15, 303 Collins Street

You’ll need to be swiped in that time of night at the door, so call Stewart Gleadow (0421 634 361) if there’s no one there.

Looking forward to another great turnout this month!

Testing iOS Apps with Frank – slides and videos

Many thanks to Oliver Jones, once again, for doing a stellar job putting this video together of Stewart’s talk.

Here’s a rather audio-challenged, unedited version of the actual talk broken in to two parts.

And lastly, here’s Stewart’s slides, if you’d like to follow along at home.

February wrap-up

Well, what a fantastic start to 2011! For those that couldn’t make it, we had about 35 people rock up to Lookout Mobile’s new office in Prahran on a hot and steamy Melbourne night.

Once again I’d like to thank Daniel and the team at Lookout Mobile for hosting the event and supplying the beer and pizza. I think their bar fridge is looking a little worse for wear this morning.

Thanks also go to our speakers Stewart Gleadow and Jeff Tan-Ang for getting up and presenting such great material.

Hopefully they’ll be kind enough to post their presentations and I know Oliver had audio of the night and I have some rather sketchy video, so we’ll see what we can make of that in the next week or so.

Stay tuned for more information about up-coming meetups. March is shaping up to be another great event.

Cheers

Sean
