Hey Everyone,
Hope you all had a fantastic break and are looking forward to Melbourne Cocoaheads kicking off again.
I’m very pleased to announce that RMIT have offered (through Audrey Tam) one of their rooms for our use in 2012. Last year we had a great time being hosted by the various companies in Melbourne, but this year I thought it might be good to settle down in one location so everyone knows where the meetups will be. It also got a little hard for smaller companies to host when our numbers started getting up to 50 or more people. I’ve confirmed with Audrey that the room is available for at least the first half of the year, so we’ll try it out for a while and see if it works.
Even though RMIT will be providing the venue, there will still be opportunities for companies to sponsor pizza and beer. I’m working with one potential partner to secure that sponsorship for the first half of the year, but please let me know if you or your company would like to sponsor. It’s a great way to get involved in the community and an opportunity for you to spend five minutes at the start of the meetup to tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
Towards the end of last year I had a whole lot of people approach me offering to do presentations. I’m hoping to get the schedule locked in for the first half of the year, so even if you’re not prepared right now but would like to present, fee free to nominate yourself for a meetup later in the first half.
The dates are:
Feb 9th
March 15th
April 12th
May 10th
June 14th
Please email me with the details of your talk and your preferred date.
The location is RMIT building 8, level 7, room 71. Building 8 is the one the library is in. There is an entrance to building 8 at street level off Swanston St. Take the lift up to level 7, exit the elevator and walk straight ahead. I’ll put some signage up on level 7 to help.
Cheers, and I look forward to seeing you all again on Feb 9th.
Cheers
Sean

December 18th, 2011 — Meetings
Hey everyone,
As we head towards Christmas and the end of 2011, I thought it might be timely to reflect on the past year. Our meetups have gone from strength to strength, regularly getting between 50 – 70 people to each meetup. That was in large part due to our very generous hosts who provided venues, food and beer. For some of the smaller companies this was a significant commitment and it’s been great to see their support for the community. Certainly without the support of all our hosts we’d still be being booted out of the RMIT library at 8pm, so a very big thank you goes out to:

We also had over 22 presenters contribute their valuable time to create and present some amazing world-class content. Thank you all for contributing your time and stepping up to help making Melbourne Cocoaheads one of the world’s leading communities for iOS and Mac developers.

Finally I’d like to thank all of you who came along to the meetups this year. I’m still blown away at how many new people I’ve met just this year who are now regular attendees and contributors to the community. It’s been great seeing you all each month and I’m really looking forward to seeing the community grow and prosper next year.
The next meetup will be in February, so stay tuned to the email list for news about our first event for 2012. In the mean time, have a great Christmas break with friends and family and I’ll see you all in the new year.
Cheers

This month we’re meeting at 1000£ Bend in the city for our final meetup of 2011. Please note that I had to move the meetup to 6:30pm next WEDNESDAY night instead of the usual Thursday so we could get in to the venue.
Itty Bitty Apps is sponsoring the venue and pizza, while drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.

This month we have Keith Pitt giving us an in-depth look at Vendor, an iOS dependency management system that he teased us with last month.
We’ll also have a few lightning talks about how people setup and structure their projects. If you’d like to show how you setup and configure your iOS or Mac projects, let me know.
As usual there’ll also be a chance to get up and show any new applications you’ve developed. Ping me if you’d like to show your wares.
I know there’s a lot of stuff going on this time of year, but I’m hoping you’ll all be able to make it to this final meetup, catch up with friends and recap what has been a fantastic year for Melbourne Cocoaheads.
Looking forward to seeing you next Wednesday.
Cheers
Sean
